the Mansfield Manuscript

Just newly launched is a book of songs taken verbatim from a set of manuscripts held in the Hornel Library in Kirkcudbright. This mid-eighteenth century collection was made over a period of twenty-odd years, and covers 319 pages of songs, Child ballads, rhymes and poems. Along with an introduction to the history of the manuscript, there are also detailed notes on the songs, and an index linking the collection with similar versions in Greig-Duncan, The Scots Musical Museum and Childs English and Scottish Popular Ballads.
